In this Newsletter: Google SiteLinks - Revisited
Google SiteLinks - Revisited
by Al Costanzo - Dynamic Software
In a past NewsFeed only SiteLinks article, I discussed Google SiteLinks. At the time, SiteLinks only appeared for your site if your site was in the first position of the search results returned.
If you have never seen an example, let's have a look. If you went to Google and searched for, Dynamic Software in the query box at the time the first article was written, you would see something like this appear:
The site links are those under the primary listing. In this example SEO Suite 8, Mail Communicator, Free Download, Bid Maximizer, Lost Registration Codes, Security Policy, Price List and Purchase Software are the SiteLinks.
Google automatically calculates the site links based on web traffic. Google states:
"Our process for generating Sitelinks is completely automated. We show them when we think they'll be most useful to searchers, saving them time from hunting through web pages to find the information they are looking for. Over time, we may look for ways to incorporate input from webmasters too."
Now Google has been tweaking and experimenting with sitelinks. It is possible you may see a compressed version of SilteLinks for your site that looks something like this:
This compressed version of Google SiteLinks that displays in the search results may appear in the results even if you are not in the first position. You will also note that Google looks though your entire site and if finds other useful information to display it will follow it after the plus sign. In this example, Google found the address of Dynamic Software on the "contact us" page.
If you click on the address link, Google will display a map of the area and offer driving directions. It should be noted that this is only one example. If Google found other information that it thought would be useful in the search results they would be displayed as well.
Currently both the compressed and uncompressed version of the site links are being displayed for sites.
We bring this to your attention since we discussed this in a previous article.
We hope you found this information useful.
